The next Director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs will lead a vibrant department with a team of 500 staff (approximately 150 FTE’s) who provide a wide range of leisure, recreational and cultural services to the community. The Director provides oversight of Department operations and facilities, determines Departmental strategic direction in support of City policies, and participates directly with the community including engagement with several citizen-led, program-oriented committees.
The City of Alexandria employs a City Council/City Manager form of government. The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Director reports to the City Manager and serves as part of the City’s Executive team.
The City is seeking an individual with a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of study and 10 years of senior management experience in a Parks & Recreation Department organization. A Master’s degree and 15 years of management experience is preferred.
